Shaping the nature reserve

Our working party on Friday began to shape the nature reserve. Here we have to tread a fine line which allows us to manage the site with a light touch that enhances what is there – making the space for nature better than it would be *without* our intervention. Tricky.

We spent a couple of hours pulling out willowherb stalks and weaving them into dead hedges; crown-lifting a few of the willows and similarly laying those into a (living?) hedge; and beginning to scrape off some of the surface where the pond scrapes will be.

Thanks to Thoko, Reet, Janet, Tony & Jeff for their work today.
